The Engineer - Manufacturing (Weld Specific) position, under general direction, is responsible for planning and designing complex manufacturing processes in an industrial plant while improving production methods, determine manufacturing capacity, and set up of production schedules. This position may provide support in the design, fabrication, modification, and evaluation in support of manufacturing operations such as machining, metal forming, plastics processing, welding and brazing, assembly, and material handling.
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Bachelor’s degree or abore in Mechanical, Manufacturing, or Welding Engineering or equivalent work experience
• Knowledge of CWB (Canadian Welding Bureau) and/or AWS (American Welding Society) standards is an asset
• Robotic welding experience in a welding environment is an asset but not a requirement.
• Strong knowledge of jig and fixture design and work holding principles
• Experienced weld fixture and tooling designer (minimum 5 years)
• Good understanding of LEAN techniques, work flow and cell layout
• Must have good communication skills and be able to work closely and effectively with other departments and individuals within the organization
• Self-motivated, organized and have attention to detail
• Able to work independently, prioritize, and multi task with accountability for decisions
• Above average computer skills including all Windows applications, AutoCAD and SolidWorks/ProE
• 5+ years’ experience in a welding environment, preferably multi component weldments with multi pass welds
• Strong knowledge of weld sequencing, fit up and processes
• Demonstrated problem solving skills
RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Accountable for developing plant control philosophy creating Control Plans, PFMEA’s, VSM’s, work instructions, time studies, etc.
• Develop and support the welding process requirements for current and new Skyjack products
• Development of standard operating procedures (work instructions) for all processes
• Responsible for all jigs and fixtures and inspection tools to ensure parts are in compliance with specifications
• Trouble shooting & root cause analysis On all jigs and fixtures to address production issues
• Design and/or procure jigs, fixtures and tooling required for all products
• Accountable for the successful completion of assigned manufacturing engineering tasks, providing information throughout the development process.
• Work with tooling suppliers to verify design and drawings to ensure accuracy and compliance with specifications
• Identify areas where Fixturing/tooling are required and implement
• Create plant layouts and develop processes to ensure current and future productivity targets are met
• Develop innovative ideas and alternatives to be cost competitive with production targets
• Size and select equipment, materials and process systems
